Adelaide – Festival City

It has been a few weeks since I last posted on my blog, but it has been a productive break as I have been gathering and developing new stories and material to share with you in the coming weeks.  But now it is that time of year again when Adelaide comes alive with the sound of festivals.  There is much happening and you are quite literally spoiled for choice.  Whichever event you decide to attend, you can be assured of an entertaining day or night out with friends and family.  Continue reading

Australia Plains

It has to be a sin for an Australian never to have been to Australia Plains.  Okay, so there is not a lot out there, but after the rains during winter rural Australia is beautiful. Continue reading

Seal of Approval

A mini break to Kangaroo Island is more than a holiday.  It is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature.  There is limited network and phone access on the island’s west side but you hardly even notice. My mini break to Kangaroo Island last weekend was a chance to detox from the digital world. Continue reading

It’s a Mad Mad March

The temperatures are still quite warm despite summer making way for Autumn.  Yet Adelaide is no less crazy and bustling with excitement.  Every festival, or so it seems, is scheduled during the month of March.  No wonder locals call this Mad March. Continue reading

Where Beauty and Tragedy Meet

For a natural and unspoiled beach head south of Adelaide to Port Willunga.  Golden white, soft sand that meets cool, blue sea lapping gently against the shore.  A stretch of beach somewhat hidden away from the crowds is popular with families in summer.  However, the beach is not the only drawcard.  Perched on top of the hill is the Star of Greece restaurant, its name from the grain ship that tragically ran aground 200 metres off the coast. It’s Showtime!

Yes, it’s that time of year again in Adelaide.  Time for fairy floss, rides, sideshows, animals and goodies bags at the Royal Adelaide Show.  From humble beginnings, the show started way back in December 1840 and has grown in size each year. Continue reading

Reported to be one of the best cabaret exhibitions in the world and it belongs to Adelaide. This is the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Each year the city puts on a world-class event that brings approximately 48000 people to South Australia’s Riverbank Precinct. Continue reading

Beauty of the South

As the temperatures soar in the city, the coolest place to be is on Granite Island at South Australia’s (SA) regional city of Victor Harbor.  A day trip to the south coast is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.   Continue reading

Beneath a Tuscan Sky

The wine region of South Australia, such as the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale are well-known around the world for producing high quality wines.  Yet it is sometimes hard to believe that some of the big labels are located in my backyard.  Quite literally in the case of McLaren Vale which is a short hop away. Continue reading

Adelaide Appreciation 101

We spend a lot of time travelling overseas or interstate, that we do not think of what our own city has to offer.  This week a friend from Europe spent time in Adelaide on his trip to Australia and it was great to hear how impressed he was with what Adelaide had to offer. Continue reading
