I came across an article recently on Facebook about travel being a real addiction. A doctor was quoted in the piece confirming just that. But I have to disagree with that diagnosis. Because for me, travel is a lifestyle choice. Continue reading
To see the world through those of an artist exposes you to a diverse range of perspectives. Many artists over the centuries travelled away from home for the sake of their art. Vincent Van Gogh was one of those artists. Continue reading
We often remember exactly where we were during a tragic world event and 2016 certainly had no shortage of these. In particular, one day stands out to me – 22 March 2016 – and it still feels surreal to me that I was there. I still remember the way I felt when the early morning bustling city suddenly became as empty and still as a war-zone. Continue reading
Is there a right time for you to travel somewhere? Just because all your friends and colleagues have visited the top holiday destinations, does it mean you have to as well? And if you do, will you enjoy it more or less? That is what it is like for me. I have to feel a strong enough pull towards a country before I can fully appreciate all it has to offer. What is home? It is where you feel the most connected with. It need not be the place where you were born. Home is where you feel the greatest spiritual connection. It is the place where you are the most happy and free. While my physical home may be in Adelaide, the more I travelled the more I have come to realise that home is not a place but it is a feeling. The perfect way to say goodbye to Paris is at the top of La Tour Eiffel. A gorgeous view, a tasty glass of bubbly from the Champagne Bar, what more could you ask for? Continue reading
Unfortunately travel today means the first thing you have to put in your mind is to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Yet we cannot let the threat and actual events of terrorism disrupt us from our everyday lives. The explosions in Brussels this morning, 22 March 2016, remind us that we must always be alert. Yet still be able to focus on enjoying a holiday. It is not easy but at the same time we cannot let this event keep us from exploring the world. Continue reading
Welcome to 2016. A year filled with new adventures, hopes and dreams. As it is a new year I have given my blog a fresh new look for 2016. A big thank you to all my readers for following along on my travel adventures and tales. I have also enjoyed reading your own blogs and personal stories. When I started this blog over a year ago I never imagined how big the blogging community would be. There are so many talented writers around the world all connected by the web, a passion to write and sharing stories just like a family.
In 2016 I wish everyone a successful year in achieving the goals you have set but also to have fun along the way. Quite often we get caught up in matters beyond our control over and forget about things that are important to us. Not just in a travel sense but also within our own lives. It is a time to reflect on our events and achievements of last year and move forward to build on our dreams and aspirations.
I am not a fan of making a list of new year resolutions that are at risk of not being realistic or achievable. This year I will focus progressing a few writing projects that have been waiting in the wings. I will also be adding some new features to my blog this year, so stay tuned.
It is the end of another year. One that has been eventful for all the wrong reasons on a global scale. As the world events continue to escalate year after year, Christmas becomes a time for reflection and prayer. No matter the culture or how the holidays are celebrated, all many people want is peace and happiness. Continue reading
