Europe in Australia

You don’t have to leave Australia to taste the flavours of Europe.  Take a walk along the South Bank in Brisbane where you are literally spoiled for choice of restaurants and cafes.

IMG_6555Last week I took a mini-break to Brisbane, a slightly warmer climate than down south, to discover the delicious array of restaurants on offer.  Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Greek cuisine, most of Europe is represented.  It was like taking a step back in time to my holidays in Spain and Greece.  Taking a bite into a delicious Greek gyros and sampling fresh seafood paella took me back to some glorious moments. Of course, Spanish food would not be the same without a cool glass of fruity sangria.  Brisbane’s South Bank will leave your taste buds wanting more.

Dine inside or outside and people watch as the crowds pass you by.  After a long day of exploring the sights and sounds of Brisbane, there is nothing more relaxing than finding the perfect spot to relax with a nice glass of wine.  Australia boasts some of the best wine regions in the world and these are reflected on the menus.

IMG_6539Unlike Sydney or Melbourne, the city of Brisbane does not feel like a big city.  Looking across the Brisbane River from the promenade you may see the skyline of office buildings, but South Bank feels like another world.  Take a leisurely walk, cycle or jog along the river behind the Brisbane Wheel, a smaller version of the London Eye.  Here you will also find a small rainforest that allows an escape from the hustle and bustle of city craziness.  Take a seat on the benches to reflect, re-connect, and re-balance your mind, body and spirit.

  1. I was just reading that some of the cattle ranches/farms out west are as big as some European countries and that just blows my mind! The city there reminds me a lot of Atlanta here in the states.

  2. Brisbane looks like a lovely place to just hang out out and chill for a while!
